Zu Füßen eines mächtigen Baumes in einer gemütlichen Wurzelkuhle liegt eine weiße Hundedame. Sie scheint nicht zu atmen, erwacht aber dann doch und richtet sich auf. Sie bewegt sich recht langsam, denn sie ist schon sehr alt. Mit dem Schwanz voran steigt sie aus ihrem Bett unter dem Baum, der seine Aste schützend über sie gebeugt hat. Was das Ende der Erzählung ist, wird zum Anfang des Films. Rückwärts verfolgen wir das Leben und die Entwicklung der Freundschaft zwischen der Hundedame und dem Baum bis hin zu ihrer Ankunft als Welpe. Es ist eine starke Freundschaft, die verschiedene Verwandlungen der beiden und sogar einen heftigen Sturm übersteht. Eine Freundschaft ohne Ende.
At the foot of a mighty tree, in a cosy root hollow, lies a white female dog. She doesn’t seem to be breathing, but then she stirs and sits up. She moves rather slowly, for she is already very old. Tail first, she climbs out of her bed beneath the tree, whose branches have bent protectively over her. What is the end of the story becomes the beginning of the film. We follow, in reverse, the life and the development of the friendship between the dog and the tree, right back to her arrival as a puppy. It is a strong friendship that withstands various changes in both of them and even a heavy storm. A friendship without an end.
